MaleCNS v1.0 · schematic, not anatomy
Illustrative map + actual sampled firing events
Each mint starts a fresh simulation across 165,122 fruit-fly neurons. The resulting neural activity shapes your FlyPunk’s eyes, colours, anatomy and traits. Watch yours emerge, then mint it. Your artwork lives fully onchain.

BRAIN-DRIVENEach portrait begins with a new run through the fly brain.
ONE TINY BRAIN. 1,666 EXPRESSIONS.
A fruit fly’s brain is small—but its wiring opens up a remarkable world. FlyPunks brings a real biological wiring map into a digital brain simulation. Every run sends a new wave of activity through that network, driving the colours, shapes and character of a pixel portrait.
You watch it emerge. You choose the one that feels like yours. When you mint, the complete artwork and its essential metadata become part of the chain—not just a link to an image server. One of 1,666 genesis FlyPunks. A little piece of this experiment, yours to own.
The brain activity is simulated, not recorded from a living fly. Measured activity guides an artist-designed pixel renderer; neurons do not directly draw individual pixels.
Scientists mapped the fruit fly’s neurons and their connections—a biological wiring diagram called a connectome. FlyPunks uses MaleCNS v1.0, created through a collaboration involving HHMI Janelia’s FlyEM team, the University of Cambridge, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Google Research.
We use that wiring in a neural simulation. A visual stimulus produces simulated firing patterns; measurements from those patterns guide our pixel renderer’s colours, eyes, anatomy and traits. The map is biological; the activity is simulated, not recorded from a living fly. FlyPunks is an independent art project, not affiliated with or endorsed by these research organisations.

A simulated fruit-fly brain responds to a checkerboard through its visual pathway. Its firing patterns guide your portrait’s traits, palette and character. Our pixel renderer turns those measurements into the FlyPunk you see. Same biological wiring. A fresh neural journey.
Connect, press Generate and watch your FlyPunk emerge. Regenerate if you want another expression. When you find yours, press Mint and confirm one transaction. The price is 5 USDC plus gas, also paid in USDC.
Yes. Every NFT in this onchain genesis contract stores its complete portrait PNG and essential metadata on Arc. No image host or IPFS pin is needed to reconstruct it. The artwork is immutable from mint. Raw simulation logs and the full brain dataset are not stored onchain.
Yes. Your mint binds the exact saved portrait to your NFT. While confirmation is pending, that portrait stays protected. Refreshing does not create another mint.
No image model generates the portraits. Simulated fly-brain activity drives artist-defined pixel-art rules. Decorative website illustrations are separate from the NFT artwork.
A future chapter: each FlyPunk is designed to support its own token-bound Fly Account, controlled by whoever owns the NFT. Fly Accounts are not active yet. Features and activation details will be announced after the Arc infrastructure is verified.
Open Collection and choose My NFTs to see the FlyPunks your connected account currently owns. Each portrait opens a page that reads its artwork directly from Arc. Marketplace availability depends on support for Arc.
